King Jarrah Felled in Road Reserve on Dubious Advice

An ancient Jarrah tree estimated to be around 500 years old was felled on land inside the Roe 8 road reserve. Local residents and experts such as plant biology professor Hans Lambers have lamented the loss of this significant tree. There are few jarrah trees of this size remaining on the Swan Coastal Plain.  Investigations continue into who actually authorised the felling, but it is believed to originate with the Main Roads Department following a recommendation from an arborist who deemed the tree a potential safety hazard.

This assessment has been disputed and supporters of the Beeliar Regional Park will remain vigilant for any further acts of vandalism, particularly while the Roe 8 project is officially stopped.
